Interview January, 2010

Q: Caroljane, what made you think about writing stories while you were in high school?

CJF: My dad, the colonel, wrote a lot and I was fascinated with his stories about his childhood and family. Then about that time I found out he had published a short story. I went to the library, found the magazine it was in, and I thought it was terrific. I could hear my dad痴 voice as I read and then it had a shocking surprise ending. From then on instead of reading under the covers with a flashlight, I propped the flashlight and was scribbling in notebooks under the covers.

Q: Do you still have any of those stories?

CJF: (laughing) No, not really. But my stories from that time were mostly about my family so now I’m writing about love and romance and the military life. It is absolutely fiction but tidbits are from personal experience.

Q: What about the romance?

CJF: Oh yes, I致e enjoyed romantic love in my life and I am definitely an optimistic romantic. I think my books reveal that about me.

Q: Tell us about A Major Seduction.

CJF: Cariline is the oldest of five daughters who grew up in the Air Force and each daughter was born in a different foreign country. Being the first born and helping take care of her siblings, she developed into a strong adult but swore off military men. After college she’s accepted to an Ivy League law school but she follows her heart, marries a local college man and agrees to stay put for law school. At graduation she is recruited by a prestigious Boston law firm and her husband announces he won’t move. Deeply hurt by his betrayal, she files for divorce and moves to Boston alone to focus all her energy on becoming a partner.

Steve is pursuing his lifelong goal as an Air Force fighter pilot. His early marriage to his childhood sweetheart didn’t survive the first year of Steve’s flight training. His wife hightailed it back to her family in Texas and found a husband who wanted to stay put. Steve is headed to Tokyo early on a mission to prove his on-the-ground maturity and leadership then to be the best man in his buddy’s wedding.

With only eighteen months left to go on her partnership track, Cariline gets a frantic call from the bride, her former college roommate, who’s Momzilla has fractured her foot in Atlanta. Cari, maid of honor, agrees to leave immediately to salvage the wedding, deliver the wedding gown.

Cari and Steve meet by chance at the Atlanta airport, and the rest of romance is set in Japan.
